Term 2 at Little Lambs: Full Hearts, Muddy Boots and a Community That Cares
Term 2 has been one for the books.
From the kitchen to the vegetable garden, from the classroom floor to the great outdoors... our Little Lambs have been busy learning, growing and thriving. And none of it happens without the people who show up for them... our teachers, our kitchen team, our volunteers and our generous partners.
Here's a little snapshot of what life has looked like at Little Lambs lately.
Out in the Garden
One of the biggest highlights this term has been our visits to Love in a Bowl, a beautiful community farm right here in Hout Bay. Our children walked through rows of cabbages and fresh vegetables, met the farmers who tend them, and learned where food actually comes from.
There is something that shifts in a child when they hold a vegetable they just pulled from the ground. Curiosity. Wonder. Connection. These are the kinds of moments we live for at Little Lambs... the ones that go far beyond a worksheet or a whiteboard.
In the Classroom
Back inside, our classrooms have been buzzing with activity.
Our little ones have been working on their fine motor skills through threading activities... tiny fingers looping string through buttons with incredible focus and concentration. These small, seemingly simple tasks are laying the foundation for writing, drawing and all the detailed work that school will one day demand of them.
We also spent time exploring emotions this term. Happy, sad, angry, calm, excited... learning to name feelings is one of the most powerful things we can give a young child. Through games, colourful faces and lots of conversation, our Little Lambs are growing in self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
And of course, there has been play. Lots and lots of play. Tyre seesaws, sandbox adventures, outdoor running and the kind of free, joyful movement that builds strong bodies and even stronger friendships.
From Our Kitchen, With Love
Our kitchen team has been working hard this term... and the smiles on their faces say it all.
Fresh vetkoek, rolled by hand and fried golden, made it onto the menu thanks to a generous flour donation from Adventure Works. These are the partnerships that make a real, tangible difference to what we can offer our children every single day.
Every child at Little Lambs receives a nutritious meal during their school day. For many of our little ones, this is one of the most consistent, nourishing meals they receive. It matters more than we can say.
The Volunteers Who Show Up
This term we were also blessed by volunteers who gave their time and their energy to our children. Whether it was walking alongside the Little Lambs on an outing, helping in the classroom, or simply being a present and caring adult in a child's day... the impact is enormous.
Volunteers bring something our team alone cannot always provide: fresh energy, new perspectives and the simple, powerful message to a child that the wider world cares about them too.
The Reality Behind the Scenes
We love sharing the highlights. But we also want to be honest with you.
Families at Little Lambs pay R650 per month per child. That covers less than 40% of what it actually costs to care for each child properly... with quality meals, trained teachers, learning materials and a safe, stimulating environment.
The rest is covered by people like you. Donors, partners, volunteers and community members who believe that every child in Imizamo Yethu deserves a strong start.
Here's How You Can Get Involved
We are always looking for local businesses, organisations and individuals who want to make a difference close to home. Here are three ways to do exactly that:
π Donate Every rand goes directly to the children. From R167 a month to cover daily meals, to R2,000 to feed a child for a full year... no amount is too small. Donate at givengain.com/campaign/little-lambs.
π€ Partner with us locally Like Adventure Works, your business or organisation can sponsor a project, donate supplies, or fund a specific need... and we will shout your name from the rooftops. Email us at sara@littlelambs.org.za to explore a partnership that works for both of us.
π Volunteer your time Are you based in Hout Bay or Cape Town? We would love to welcome you. Whether you have an afternoon or a regular weekly slot, your presence makes a difference. Email sara@littlelambs.org.za to find out more.
We are so grateful for every person who walks with us. Term 3 is just around the corner... and we cannot wait to share what comes next.
With love, The Little Lambs Family Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, Cape Town πΏπ¦
